Looking for a lowering kit for my 1959 Square Bird. Does anyone have the right answer? How about air bags????

      RE: Lowering kit

The Squarebirds are very low to the ground to start with. I recall there was a company called "Drop and Stop," or something similar that, that made a disc brake conversion kit that lowered the car an inch or so in the front. Alternately you can cut the springs in front and re-arc the leafs in back to bring the car lower. With the roads the way they are now, I would worry about bottoming out.

If you want to make your car low when standing still, but still have some suspension travel and road clearance when driving, I suggest you ask your question on a lowrider site to see what people have done. Maybe someone has already gone through this type of conversion on a Squarebird on one of those sites.

        RE: Lowering kit

Actually, the only reason I would like to lower it is because I saw one at a show. It parked right next to mine and it was just a little bit lower, noticible, but just a little lower. I did not think about doing it to mine at the time, but it stayed in my mind. I didn't ask the owner about the lowering because he just parked it and left it for the day and I didn't see him. Now it's justsomething I would like to do. I will probably look into airbags, that way I can just lower it a bit when I show it. I'm not really into making it a low rider, just an ince or so, bearly noticible.

        Thanks for the responce.

In my NOT so humble opinion, I don't feel that's a good reason for wanting to do this. However, it IS your car, and you are of course, free to do with it as you see fit.

I just had to say that.

No offense, but I wouldn't mess with it's stock height. To me, it's already low enough.
