Transmission oil pan , oil line support?

    (1) I just removed the oil pan from my Cruise O Matic transmission and noticed that IN the oil pan there is a little steel plate, which was bend and broke when I toched it.

    (2) I also noticed that an oil line was loose.
This is, acc. to page 4-31 of the shop manual, the "lubrication oil line to the pressure regulator".

    (3) Also I found some small pieces of wire (diameter approx. 0,5 mm).

It looks like the small steel plate in the oil pan should prevent the lubrciation oil line from loosening itself.

    Questions:
(1)- how should the steel plate in the oil pan look like? Upright, or bend?
(2)- is the lubrication oil line an (important) feeding line, or a (less critical) discharge line?
(3)- where could the small wire pieces come from and is this harmfull?

I have pictures but don't know how to glue them in the message.

    thanks.

Those pieces in the transmission is not a good thing. They are probably pieces of the clutch plates. You need a transmission rebuild.

If I remember right that tube was loose on my transmission also when I changed the fluid. No ill effect to date.

I don't know the function of that metal tab on the pan.

          Alexander,

My theory is that during earlier transmission oil exchange the pan was forced onto the tranny, with the lubrication oil line (partly) loose. The tab then hit the oil line (instead of being placed adjacent to the line, thus preventing it from loosening), hitting the oil line caused the tab to bend and that's how I found it.
          Sounds plausible?

Do you also have a metal tab in the oil pan? If so, how did it look like?

I do not remember a tab. I will check the shop manual to see if it mentions it.

I think that tube was loose on my transmission, but it definitely was not out of its socket.
