62 PS Pump Fluid level??

On the outside of resivor tank it says fill to 1 inch from top I think. Do you fill it when hot or when cold? Appears mine had trans fluid in it. Red and smells like that fluid.

Fill cold

Reservoir should be filled cold as the 1" is to allow for expansion of the fluid as it heats up.

I use Type F automatic transmission fluid in PS. Motorcraft recommends this in Ford transmissions built before 1996 and for PS.

You might check how clean the fluid is. My reservoir doesn't have a filter and so once a year I empty it and fill with fresh Type F. PS fluid circulates through the system.
