    Part Cleaner Tank Solvent ??

    hi!

I have a small, 3.5 gallon, parts cleaner tank. Kind of a mini, home version of what Safety-Kleen has long sold.

Does anyone else have this kind of thing? My question is: what do you use for a solvent/cleaner?

    thanks!

    I have larger ...

20 & 30 gal units and have been using mineral spirits for many years. On a small unit like yours the price is not prohibitive but I may be looking for an alternative. Used to be 1.99 a gal before the the last Big gas hike, it's now like $13 a gal. Gas came back down but mineral spirits haven't. Mike

Homedepot.com shows paint thinner at $7/gal and mineral spirits at $10/gal. Menards, Lowes and Fleet Farm are less expensive on all. I bought a couple gallons of paint thinner at Menards recently on-sale for $3.98/gal.

Graymills, a long time manufacturer of parts washers has a great solvent that I use. It is easy on the hands and does a fair job of cleaning (before the EPA made them tone it down, it was an excellent cleaner). It is sold in 5 gan cans and is available at Grainger. The price goes up every time I buy it and the last time was some 60.00.

That,s good to know. I live up on the western slope and Don't get to the big city very often. Guess next time I'm down there I'll stock up. Thanks, Mike
