Anyone need a Cruise-o-matic shift detent plate?

It seems that part of the solution to the sloppy shifting in Cruise-o-Matic T-birds is a worn shift detent plate.

    See http://www.squarebirds.org/cgi-bin/d...rum=DCForumID1 for more details.

Since nobody is manufacturing this part, we all must either find a good used one, fabricate our own, or live with the sloppy shifting.

Alexander suggested having some made by http://www.emachineshop.com
The more we order, the cheaper it would be.

So, is anyone interested? I sure am. What do you think?

I'm trying to find out whether I'd want one (probably) but need more info. The link you provide references topic 141; how do I find topic 141? Searching it doesn't seem to work.

Edit: Never mind, I found it.

Okay, it sounds like it's likely that this is a part that I need, but I know my shift collar needs replacing too, and honestly trying to get the car running is higher on my priority list. I still don't know what I'm dealing with as far as the transmission's basic operation, gear seection aside, so I think for now I'm gonna have to hold off on this.. sorry.. :-(

Think the 58-60's are bad?????? Try a 65.
Talk about sloppy. It just "falls" out of reverse.
has to be in P with the wheel slid over to start.
            Scary !!!!!!!!!

I'll buy one if they aren't too expensive. My shifter is very solid since I replaced the shift collar and bushing, but you can't be too safe. I'd like to replace the detent plate just so I know everything in there is new.

OK, I count six interested parties:

                  Alexander
                  BlackBird58
                  re_run1

                  tarps3
                  jalderfer

Actual pricing is based on specifications of the part. Alexander, do you think you could create a draft of the part to get an idea on price?

I am working on it now. that detent plate for the 1965 Ford that was in that catalog turns out to be very different. The outlines are similar but the proportions are different. It would not have worked.

I think I can make this detent plate up for less cost than that 1965 plate if I make up 10 of them.

                    Stay tuned.

Perhaps one of the TBird parts houses would be interested in buying some to carry in their catalog? That would be nice. Or, of course, Alexander, you might want to keep the extras to sell through squarebirds.org?

Unless the cost would be TO high, I would be interested as well.

I think I can make these detent plates up at reasonable cost through www.bigbluesaw.com .

I have had some difficulty making up the drawings as the part has some irregular curves. I spent the weekend making it up in Visio Technical and exporting into in the requested DXF format only to find on uploading to their site that the cutout part was inexplicably bigger than the piece itself. It looks fine on my computer.

I next made the part up in SolidWorks. This program is an 3D CAD program, so it is overkill making up an essentially 2D part. It came out well, and I was able to output it as a dxf file, but somehow bluesaw sees it as a 200 inch piece with a cutout of the detent plate in the middle. Arrgh!!!

Here is a rendered version of the part I made up in the computer.

I have not given up yet.

Thank you for all your effort - when you're done there will be a bunch of solid shifting T-birds on the road with you to thank!
