Carpet questions - Trim code 53

    Hello,

I'm getting ready to purchase new carpet for my 60 HT, Color is "T" (Meadowvale Green) with trim code "53" (Dark/Light Green).

    1. Does anyone have a photo or link to an original bird with trim 53? I'd like to see what color the OEM carpet was. My car did not have the original carpet. I have a feeling that the green carpets from the various Tbird suppliers are not the right color.

    2. Is there any preference for one carpet supplier over another? Price is not the main concern; this is a 10-year nut/bolt restoration so I'm interested in accuracy and quality.

    3. I have read the carpet installation article in the TRL. Useful, but it assumes installing over the original insulation material. I am using the Quiet Ride kit, which has Dynamat on the metal and insulation over that. Has anyone worked with this? Any issues with the carpet installation?

    Thanks,

    John

Is there any carpet left on the back of the bottom seats cushions. That should match the floor carpeting.

Carpet questions - Trim code 53

The closest thing I have seen on the Bird Nest website is their Aqua color. Here is the link to their Floor Carpet section. Type in Floor Carpet and 1960, then go to the last page to see their Aqua color..

          http://www.parts123.com/parts123/yb....gbc~~~~A20~A11

I would suggest that you call them, and speak with Don. Ask him which of their colors in their catalog comes closest to matching '60 Trim Code 53 Floor Carpeting and see what he says about that. Most of the Tbird suppliers get their parts from the same company I am told, in many cases..

You also might contact SMS Auto Fabrics as they have Trim Code 53 Floor Carpeting for the Hardtop according to their website. The link I am about to post does not show an image of the color, but right below it, is the 1960 Ford Vinyl color which looks to be the same. Contact them and they will send you a sample of Trime Code 53 floor carpeting for free, as I recall of their Trim Code 53 floor carpeting... Here is that link...

          https://smsautofabrics.com/collectio...ardtop+trim-53

Another company to contact is Automotive Interiors. They also manufacture classic auto interiors and Floor Carpeting. Here is a link to them. Complete the Year, Make, Model, Body Type and Loop. Then look for the 08 Dark Green and put a bullet in it. It will give you all the details regarding that color and material.

          https://www.automotiveinteriors.com/...kits_a/267.htm

Keep in mind that over some nearly 60 years that colors fade. However, the picture I am about to post shows you what it looked like when it was new... It is a little hard to see the floor carpeting, but you can see that it is Dark Green.. It should be the color you want...

For quality I recommend Auto Custom Carpet. You can get it through Rockauto.com and get our discount for a big savings over ordering directly from them. They also list an 08-dark green in the 80/20 rayon/nylon which is correct. Their carpet has the correct metal ring for the high beam switch. Many other carpets come with the cheap plastic ring.

Yup, Wyldie is right! Just put your mouse on the right side of the pic and move to the right. Other views come up, including the interior. However, this Squarebird looks to have the lighter Aqua or Green carpeting in it, rather than the Dark Green 53. I see that several of the Tbird parts houses have the darker green color, like Tbird Hqs. Here are two links, one of the darker green color which I think is the Trim Code 53 you are looking for, or the lighter Aqua color.

                    More carpet questions

I found the photos you referenced. The best one is attached (Pic 1). I also looked at my old seats (Pic 2). Could this be original? I am surprised at the color, which is the same as the old carpets I pulled out. Also, note that the sample car *does not* have carpet in the back of the seat, while mine does. Strange. I have samples coming from Auto Custom Carpet. I think that the color on the sample car looks more authentic, but we will see.

Next, I have looked at the carpet installation article in the TRL. Very thorough, but I note that he put the carpet over the old asphalt insulation. In my case, I'm doing the QuietRide kit. (Pic 3, 4 & 5). This has the Dynamat on the floor and the insulation over it. Has anyone done carpet over this stuff? It is thicker than the asphalt and "soft" by comparison.

Lastly, I plan to install seat belts. The TRL article will be my guide. I found that Andover http://www.andoauto.com/TBird1.htm offers OEM style belts for our birds. Would they have been black or trim color (green)?

Thanks - you guys are the best in helping me out!

Have your seat covers been replaced? If they are original then that is the correct color carpet. However it looks too new to me to be original. Normally they are pretty sun faded on top. Usually where it's tucked underneath is closer to the original color. I've found that the replacement seat covers do not always have the correct factory color carpeting attached. You will have to decide if you want the floor carpet to match the seat carpet. That's the way I usually go so there's not two different colors.

The seat covers really look original. When I pulled out the back seat the ROT sheet was still attached.

Maybe PO just replaced that carpet section on the front seats.

I am going to replace seat covers so will see what (if anything) they come with. I agree with you I will try to match the carpet to the upholstery.

                        Thanks,

John, that was great finding the ROT Sheet! That does not happen often enough! I never found mine. I hope it was still in good shape and readable. Put it in a document protector to keep it safe and from further damage.

The factory put thick tar paper on the floors and tunnel but it's easily removed. His floors look original to me.
