    Fuses

    Hi Anders,

I think I had the same question about my '59 Bird. "Where is the fuse box?" I think it was Bart who told me that there was none in these birds. Things like the clock, gauges, other powered things, have their fuses in the line that provides power to them. As I recall, my mechanic verified this, saying that there is no fuse "box" per se on these Squarebirds.

But I am a Newbie, so hopefully, one of the pro's will be along soon to comment on your question.

        Fuses

There is an old Chinese proverb that goes something like this... "To gain knowledge, one must ask questions. The answer you receive may not be what you want to hear." Or something like that! Another one that comes to mind is, "A fool never seeks knowledge" Since you were seeking knowledge, that leaves you out of the "fool" part. lol... Ahh, So!!

My owners manaul shows the following

          Cirtuit Fuse Type Location
Clock 1AG-1 Cartridge on power feed
Dome Light SFE-7.5 Clip on Headlight Switch
Turn Lights SFE-7.5 Cartridge on Power Feed
Radio SFE-5 Carrridge on Power Feed
Heater Fan SFE-14 Cartridge on Power Feed
Most of my fuses are under the dash by the light switch or above the E-Brake handle soom of these are hard to find I had to take the shield off the bottom of my dash to find some of them
          Good Luck

The one that Iīm looking for is these:
Horn. There are 2 of them and no-one seems to work...
            Right front indicator.
            Brake light.
            Rear numberplate light.
All other lights work, even though I have not been able to check Back-up lights yet.

The brake light fuse is just off the ignition switch up under the dash in a lead that runs out to the stop switch on the master cylinder.
I like the sign that is on the wall at our local Courthouse. "We answer all simple questions... It's much easier to answer a silly question than fix a stupid mistake!"

                  58 Fuses

Most of the circuits you are talking about are not fused per say.

The brake lights are fused on the back of the light switch. Common fuse to blow.

Horns are not fused but there is a relay on the drivers inner front fender, lower part twords the front and way below the voltage regulator.

The Lisc. plate lights are probably a loose wire on the light switch or a defunct light switch. Defunct switches is a very common ailment on these birds.

Back up lights are another story. Yours is a late production bird as I remember and I wrote an article for VTCI Scoop that was published a while back. Can send you the diagrams via email.

Front turn signal light only one side working. Again could lead to the light switch.

Do the turn signals work with the lights on and off???

                      turn signals

If the rear turn indicator works and the front does not the problem is probably in the front unit. My approach would be to check the bulb first, check not only the filament but the contacts as well..make sure it is the correct bulb dont assume. Then check the socket which can be a problem if the spring is weak or the contacts have corroded. I would use a multi-meter to check the contacts with the signal on for voltage. If you dont have the voltage there then start checking back down the loom...probably a splce some where. Just my approach. Grant

Hey sal The bulbs on a 60 come out on the inside. Not sure about the 58 & 9 But they are a pain. I forgot about fittin my hand in there. and i had one in 67. You turn them, getting them back in is fun. But now I have grandkids. (little hands) They'll work.
