    Engine colors

Hi everyone! I am a newbie to the whole squarebird thing, but I have restored a few old Ford's in the past, all of them fifties vintage. I am having trouble finding the correct paint scheme and colors for the engine and accesories in my 1958 bird. I searched a long time to get this car and it will be a keeper so I would like it correct under the hood. The car will be a Watson type mild custom, but I would like to start with a proper resto first. Right now the whole engine is gold...yes, the block too. Any help would be great, thank you.

if you go to the Thunderbird Ranch web site at

on the left side you will see a button for "Concours Specs" which should give you the information you need.

In 1958 the engine was bue and the valve covers were black. Most of the engine brackets and accessories were semi-gloss back. The power steering resevoir and cover were argent. The air cleaner was an off-white as well as the standard 4 blade fan on a non-A/C car. The 5 blade A/C fan was black.

The color is not being made by anyone I knoe of at this time. It is called Ford light blue. I ahd to have it formulated from a nice flywheel where ther was overspray.

I will get back to you if I can find the formula used or where you can obtain the paint.

Thanks guys. I found a little blue on the back of one of my heads, (gotta love how far they are from the firewall) and had it broken down by our computerized paint formula camera at work. I work in a body shop. Look's pretty good. Is Corinthian white okay for the aircleaner?

Corinthian white should be fine for the air cleaner and non-A/C fan.
