    Bargain of the year

This 65 Convertible is for sale down here in Oz,

and I bet everyone that owns a 65 is hoping it makes the money....at an exchange rate of 96 cents US for $1 Ozzie dollar, that makes it one high priced bird.

I know its nice and everything, but $150K!!!!

Then it hit me, what an idiot I am, I forgot that it probably comes with a full tank of gas

I sold a similar one in 1999 for a meager $12k. I miss it now.

That's one sweet looking bird but $150 id awfully high. Is that normal for classic cars down under??

No Dan, that is not normal for classics down under, thankfully! There is no doubt that they command a higher price than in the states, but that is totally understandable given volumes available here. For instance, there is a clean looking 65 (not convertible though) over here in Western Australia that just sold for $28K which would equate to high $26's in US$.

Having said that, good classics continue to appreciate in value, with the baby boomer generation in particular, embracing a chance to rekindle their childhood memories.Of course, most guys sell the concept of "wise investment" to their wives

Over hear in New Zealand a 'needs-work-but-a-driver' '64 to'66 can be had for around $15,000 NZ - that's about $11,800 US.

Good ones have a price of $30,000+NZ.

And premium (96 octane) is $9:80+ an Imperial gallon here at present.

That is almost $8:00 US an Imperial gallon. (4.54 litres as opposed to 3.89litres for a US gallon)

Hi guys. I am glad that at least these birds are keeping their value and that as Tom says, can also be bought fairly reasonable. This of course depends on your version of a "daily driver " and what ultimately needs to be done to them.
