Justin, we all start out the same, knowing nothing or very little. As far as 'wrenching', some classic car owners never work on their own car and are very content to pay a restorer.
If your car gets fixed, I will not be the one to do it. The best I can do is guide you. If I am on the right track you will succeed. If not, we both are in the same boat; you will have learned nothing, I will have failed and the car will still be broken.
My background was filled with mentors who were fabulous 'car guys'. They engineered these Ford cars. I was hungry for as much as I could learn. They in turn, were very willing to teach me.
So in reality, I'm passing on the info I learned to you if you have that desire and you want to learn your car and 'old school' methods.
By far, I not the only one here who knows these cars. John is a great mechanic with over 40 years experience and he's a lot more friendly and handsome than I am. (I think it's because he's younger and he didn't have seven kids.) We have other members who only specialize in race equipment, and many more who are strictly 'purists'. Each have their own 'ways'. So do I.
Sorry if you're intimidated because I will always encourage you to restore your own car and I also encourage you to post often and question my answers for a better overall understanding. Restorer friends are few and far between, and each have their forte. Ultimately we share talents. Hopefully, you will become another of my restorer buddies. - Dave
