    rear bumper seals

I think this will be an easy question.

I've removed the rear bumper of my '60 Bird for rechroming.
While it's gone, I've ordered new hardware and seals.

1 pair of seals I've gotten is called the "rear bumper stone deflector seal". From the small diagram I have, it looks like it should go at the top of the bumper, between it and the body, on both sides.

The seals are about 30" long and have a groove running the length of them. Do these press on to the body lip under the tail lights? Exactly where do these go and how do you install them (molding adhesive?)

    thanks,
    Casey

    RE: rear bumper seals

Those seals were originally stapled on. They are nearly invisible when the bumper is mounted. I used weatherstrip adhesive to hold them on. No one has ever noticed.

does the grooved side slip over the sheet metal lip under the tail lights?
what is the purpose of these seals?

The sheet metal of the lower tail light panel goes into the groove on the rubber trim.

Ford called them rear bumper stone deflectors in the assembly diagrams. They prevent pebbles from accumulating in the tail light coves.

I have a diagram from the factory assembly sheet if you need it.

Is there nothing left of your originals to go by?

nope. there's no sign of the originals.
I didn't even know there were seals there until I saw a diagram in one of my parts catalogs. It is an exploded view and doesn't give any detail on how they are atached.

Can you post the assembly drawing you have?

You should be able to locate the holes where the staples were in your lower tail light panel.
