haulin it plays loud. Also lower dial stations 500-700 come in very
good while higher stations 1200-1400 come in very faint. Stops playing when I'm stopped and starts when I go???????????????

    2. Always notice oil on underside off hood- coming from oil cap(push on type) any sugesstions how to solve???????????

    RE: 2 weird questions

To answer the second question. It may be that the blowby pipe is clogged up. Remove the blowby pipe. It unbolts with one bolt at the transmission. Remove the wire mesh that is in the back of the intake manifold where the blowby pipe fits in. Clean the mesh with brake cleaner or other solvent.

Reinstall the mesh and then the blowby pipe.

Still, look for a clogged mesh that is in the hole in the back of the intake manifold.

          RE: 2 weird questions

on the radio, there is an adjustment which is on the bottom of the
radio. You put it on to a station in the upper part of the
dial (like 1400ish) and then adjust the piece until the station comes in its strongest. See your Shop Manual for a more extensive description of this. This assumes that you have a stock antennae
which is properly grounded and so on.

The volume should not decrease at idle. It makes me wonder if your charging system is working at that time. You might put a volt meter on it and see if it dips while at idle. The voltage regulator might not be doing its job.

my wife's new car has a radio that gets louder when the car accelerates and decreases in volume when the car slows down.
It was engineered that way as a "special audio feature".
You can adjust how much it goes up and down based on your preference.

it is supposed to compensate for road noise and engine noise..

Gee, another first brought to us by the squarebirds!!

Hi guys --probably should pass this on. I checked the underside of my oil cap (original) and found all the foam under the cap was missing. Bought a new cap for $2.99 and life is beautiful again.
Sometimes the simpliest answer is the right one.

                      Ron,

I'll dig up an old radio I have laying around to see if I can help you out.
I have to find it so it may be a couple of days....

                          RE: 2 weird questions

                          Okay,
I found my old radio (finally) and located the screw in question.
It is quite small and is not removable as far as I can tell.

I turned it all the way both directions and it won't come out. It seems to be integral to the housing it is fixed to.
I don't know how the trim screw works, but it would seem that you'd have to replace the entire mechanism.

Maybe the screw would come out it I twisted harder, but I didn't know for sure and didn't want to mess it up.

sorry I can't be of more help.
If it's any consolation, what I've done is leave the original radio wired in (for the dash light) but I disconnected the amp and installed a new radio/CD player in the glovebox.
AM radio in my area is pathetic content-wise, and I like listening to my own CD's. I can easily go back to the stock radio if I need to.

                            RE: 2 weird questions

Casey, it would be unlikely that you could get the screw out since it is part of a variable electrical component (we would have to
look at the schematic to see what exact kind - capacitor or inductor). Once you got it out you would probably have wrecked the component.

Ron, your best move might be to get on Ebay and buy another radio for parts. Merge the two together into one good one. They are quite cheap but make sure and ask if the mechanism you need is there
and intact. TBird radios seem to appear regularly, although most are without the amplifier (if you get one with a working amplifier, it is well worth keeping as a spare!).

When I got my car, the mechanism was there but someone had twisted it so hard that they ruined it. The reception had been poor due to a burned out tube but the person thought the adjustment was the problem.

I think you hit on it John. Unless the car is so fast it catches more radio waves at warp speed.

It's possible there is a poor ground on the antenna and wind pressure at speed grounds it. The antenna then loses ground without wind pressure when the car stops.
