    clunk noise

I have clunk noise that sounds like it is from the rear end when car shifts into second gear on the auto-transmission. How do I fix this?

The first thing I would check is the U joints. If they are ok then it's most likely the pinion bearing.

I have checked the u-joints and they seem good, but you are probably right about the pinion. Thanks for your quick answer.

Did you already check the differential fluid for metal glinsters? I wonder if a problem with the pinion bearing would cause a clunking noise though. And why would it only happen when shifting to 2nd gear?
