    Made the big move

I finished the move from an apartment in New York City to a house in Long Island this past weekend. The process took about a month. I had so much stuff to pack (and to throw out). I never thought I would finish.

Life in the suburbs is nice, but the commute is terrible. It took me nearly two house to get to work in the rain yesterday.

I am still living out of boxes. I need to finish the basement before I can fully unpack. I hope things will get back to noraml in about a month.

    Alexander,

Being a "country boy", I don't see how you guys in the City do it.
Although I've lived in Boston, Providence, and Dallas, being back here in Oklahoma sure is nice. It's easy on your soul.

It doesn't matter where you live or end up - moving just stinks - plain and simple.

Good to hear that you are at least "in" the place. Perhaps the commute will become easier as you discover shortcuts and alternate routes.

Does your new place have a nice garage for your "kids"?

best wishes for unpacking - that's a lot to take on during the Holidays.

I am still renting garage space in Queens.

The new house was built as low cost housing right after WWII for returning GI's and has no garage, though there is space for one. The house is definitely not low cost now, as anyone following Long Island real estate prices would know.

I hope to build a two-car garage with Backyard Buddy lifts for all the cars in the future. Finances are tight now.

Two hrs to get to work is a long drive. Kinda like mine when I was stayin in Jersey and working on Long Island.

Glad the move came out ok.

'Ya know I was just kidding with 'cha! ;-)

Moving is very trying. I did it once in my life and I really do not wanna do it again! Probably the hardest task there is. Worse, it takes months & months to get "settled" ~

Now, you have a nice nest, and a lousey drive. But, there are always hospitals on the Island......

Of course ......sandwiches and an R/C Cola.

Seriously, I am happy for you. Life is good! New Bride, New House, new beginnings!

I saw the photos of the house. Around here it would go for $375,000 and taxes would be $16,500 a year. This county in NJ is fast becoming a county of two financial classes: The working poor and the extremely wealthy! It's very sad to drive & see so many boarded up houses, forclosed upon because even with 2 working adults and dual incomes, they can't afford it. If mine wasn't the 2 family that it is, i'd be in trouble, too! My former tenant bought a house in Atlanta suburbs & the new tenant got a nice hefty rent boost of 9 % just to stay EVEN !

                    RE: Made the big move

Housing prices are insane around New York City and Long Island. Today, I went looking at a home to use potentially for our medical practice, instead of renting as present. The house is not in a great neighborhood in Queens. The asking price is $539,000. This is for a rundown house form the 1920's that is only 18 feet wide and has no garage. Who can afford this?

Corporations. If they put that money into CDs in the bank, at the current lousey 3% they'd make $16,000 a year. I'm in NJ and that's what I am getting by renting the 1st floor. Imagine what they can get in NYC - if I am getting $16,000 ???? Then they can write off all (100%) of the repairs from taxes.

                        Hi Alex,
I hope your move went well, you don't need to talk about housing cost where i live it is way over the top. I was lucky to buy my 1 bed flat with garden and two garages(that needed to be extended) before the boom, expect to pay £89.000 for what i have here that's about $150.000 and the average joint income here is £19.000 a year how people live i dont know. But i have eaten beans on toast now for 3 days just to get a tank of gas for the Bird...lol
                        Kev.
