'59 Ford radio restoration

Hi all,

Ok...So the left and right knobs are available new and there are a few who can complete the work on the case, bezel, and electrics but what about the push buttons? Looking for a set for my '59 Meteor and Thunderbird since mine are bleached and starting to fall apart.

Does anyone have a source? Haven't found them yet thru the interweb.

Hi Eric,

I just answered your email regarding detent plates. I did not realize, at that time, that you were already a member. Our Technical Resource Library (TRL) gives you 3 references of very good radio repair technicians who can probably help you with your problem. I pulled them out of the TRL for you.

I happen to have a spare, complete, working '59 radio that is available for purchase. It works well, but it is missing the face plate. If you are interested, send me a PM. I would be willing to part with it.

If all you want is to get the stock, factory radio working and looking properly, I have simple advice: get on Ebay and buy another radio. Buy two! Don't pay much...

The radios for these cars are dirt cheap.

Also the radio only contains 4 tubes and they are readily obtainable from vintage vaccum tube dealers. Get a whole new set!

The vague item with them is the amplifier. It is separate and under the dash to the left of you in the driver's seat. This means a) you need to decide if yours works b) anything you look at on Ebay, check if the amp is included and if the seller checked the system for operation (rarely done but you can ask)

Do not consider getting the amp fixed unless you want to spend alot of money. Finding another one is easier. There are power transistors in it that are no longer available.

Remember that '58 used black on knobs and the frequency plate while '59-60 used white.
