    Jim Rozzo - pghpa412james '60 Convert

Here are some additional comments that Jim has sent me regarding restoring his '60 White with red/white interior '60 Convertible he recently acquired.

"jim here. here are some newer picks of my t-bird. so far i fixed the top, replaced the carb with a summit racing 600 cfm dual feed 4 barrel , put a HEI dist. in with all new wires, and put on american racing torque thrust 2 wheels and raised white letter tires on. next month i will put all new solid state relays in."

Jim says that if he goes the solid state route he will save the relays and not discard them. Here are some new pix of his pretty Convertible.

Looks great although I prefer the '60 seat covers to match the door panels. The '59 covers look a little odd.

Nice to see anothe '60 convertible with custom rims. What size are they? Looks like 16" or maybe 17".

I'm going to stick my neck out and maybe lose some friends, but...
Please don't do solid state relays. Your mechanical relays lasted over fifty years. Can you name one solid state device that lasted even twenty years outside?

Mechanical relays are very hearty and practically bulletproof. They still operate in the coldest and hottest environments. They don't care about spikes and surges but they don't like dirt. So, to keep relays going strong, USE THEM. Frequent use actually cleans the contacts.

OEM's use mechanical relays in modern cars. They pass up to 40-amps without heatsinks and are very compact. There's nothing wrong with constructing a relay panel using modern plug-in relays. These relays are easy to troubleshoot. Just my two cents. - Dave
