    A '59 to go with my '58 ;)

My 8-yr old likes to trade HotWheels cars with his buddies. And a few days ago, he made a trade for this....

It says "MADE IN ENGLAND BY LESNEY" on the bottom.
Judging by the heavy axle pins, it is quite old....

My apologies if you clicked on this thread and expected to see a real car!

Greg thanks for posting the pix of the model car as it looks very well built. It's also good that your son traded for it and he can get hooked on them at an early age just like Dad.

Greg, quite a find alright! Searched for Lesney and came up with a few hits that led me to http://homepage.ntlworld.com/d.jones...ndex/gg75a.htm which just shows the latest auction price of your little bird at 90 pounds UK. What's that in US dollars, maybe $150. Seems that maybe you otta take the kid out and buy him his favorite toy or treat. Congrats to you!

      Here's a few more links I found and searched;

your links say the toy was produced in mid-1960...

so the little toy car is almost as old as the real car in my garage...

Let him keep trading and soon he will be able to make enough money to buy his own 58

Yes... my boy makes good trades, that's for sure.

He trades his buddies all his goofy-looking rice-rocket cars for classics like Chevelles, Road Runners, Challengers, etc etc.

You have taught him well! I was expecting to see a Real Bird, but the surprise I got was delightful!

I expect one day he will be on a forum showing off His Pride and Joy!

Tonight, when I asked him what kind of car he is going to have when he is older, he had to think about it for several minutes.
His reply was: "an old-fashion Corvette with a big engine and drag race tires". (We've been to Great Lakes Dragway a few times)

Not a bad choice, but I told him he better start saving his money for it NOW.

Here is some picture of the other variations of this little bird he can look for. He wants to find the one with black wheels.
He can spot base colors by just looking at the trailer hitch with out haveing to handle the Bird.
The bird mint and boxed with black tires is always over $300.00 USD
