I guess I should also say a STDP ( single throw Double Pole) will also work

Do you have to run separate wires to the tail lights and splice in there? Or, can you splice in under the dash somewhere?

Splice in any were you want

You can splice in to the wires any were you want even under the dash,

If you do not want to cut into your wires, you can get Tee connectors and put in line were the wires come out of the steering column. this is the easiest and I thank the best way to do it.

The key to this set up is the 2 poll switch when the switch is off the signals work as normal, but when the switch is turned on it turns the 2 circuits in to 1, this is the same way the new Hazard switches work.

Another way would be just to use a switch jumper to make the signals act as 1 by closing the switch, but this would require the ignition to be on. (not always possible) there for not a good idea. (I just threw this in just encase someone thought about doing it that way ) .

Have a great and safe Holiday
