    Engine compression readings

Does anyone know what the engine compression on a 430 should be? Mine tested out at 165-175 for 7 cylinders, and 150 for the 8th. A mechanic told me they should be coming in at 150-ish for all. Is that true? The car runs good- purrs at 70 MPH. Should I be concerned?

    Thanks

    RE: Engine compression readings

According to the shop manual at sea level and at cranking speed, the compression pressure should be:

    352 180 +/- 20
    430 200 +/- 20

Isn't the 430 considered a "Wedge motor"? Kind of like an early Chrylser (non-hemi 426)??? 10. something to one compr.

As long as the cyls are somewhat equal. One lower than the rest could cause a slight miss-fire at idle.

Would I tear it all apart for that??? Eeeeh??

Big bucks to OH one of those. One of the locals spent almost $1000.00 for a set of pistons for his Lincoln.

I guess as long as it runs well, I won't be too concerned. I can't see tearing it apart and spending big bucks if it's not misfiring. Sometimes it's best to leave well enough alone.
