New guy looking for a little help
The first thing I can tell you is you have the VIN # wrong. H9YHL48654 should be H9YH148654. I looked to see if your '59 Tbird was listed in the Tbird Registry and it is not. From you Vin # I can tell you this. The first H=352CI engine. The 9=1959. The Y=Manufactured in the Wixom plant as was all Tbirds back then. The second H=Thunderbird. The 148654=the 48,654th Tbird made in the 1959 production run. Ford always put a 1 before that number for some reason, but it does not mean that it was the 148,654th made.
If you tell us what the Data Plate figures say I can tell you what the rest of the numbers under the VIN # means. That will tell you what it left the factory as. Welcome Aboard!

Data plate photo I had is very blurry, but here is my guess on it...
63a L 5X 03F 4 1 I think...
This is her from the side. Junker said he is going to cut her up and make a rat rod out of her.....Attached FilesLast edited by YellowRose; April 30, 2014, 03:44 PM. Reason: Pix downsized to 800x600 per Forum Requirements....Comment

Yup! That Squarebird looks familiar! Well, from the Data Plate information we can tell Junker that she left the Wixom factory as a 63A=2Dr Hardtop, with a Color Code of L=Diamond Blue, a Trim Code of 5X=Drk.Blue/Lt.Blue, Date Code=03F=Scheduled for production on 03 June, 1959 though it could have been built earlier or later by a few days, depending on if they were behind or ahead in production. Tran Code 4=COM, and Axle Code 1=3:10. So there ya go.
As to what he intends to do with it, he paid the money and he gets to decide what to do with it. At least it won't be crushed!

And when I had her, the colors on the outside and inside match those codes.
At the rate I am going on "bigbird" he might beat me to the punch of having the body work done.
The motor is a bit of a mystery, it sports a two barrel intake on it.Comment

Trying to figure out how to use this forum...LOL. Good catch on my mistype on the vin # I was thinking it was a 352 also, I was able to get ignition parts from Napa, from just telling them the year. I think it's original, sort of started it, surprising don't know how long it's been sitting. I thought it was a boat anchor. My plans are to get her back on the road, but I doubt it will ever be a high dollar show car.
Well, I was kidding, he's not going to rat rod it. She may be rolling around for a while with the "patina", but I am pretty sure he is wanting to finish her off with nice paint, interior, and custom wheels.

Junker, if you do get it running, don't make the mistake I made with the 352 that was in the 58. I got it running the night we hauled her home. Drove it for quite a bit till a piece of an umbrella seal that had decayed from sitting, old age, who knows. Sucked it up into the oil pump, which seized the pump, snapped the oil pump shaft and by the time I got the car shut off the freeway and shut off the motor was knocking...
So check those seals to see how they look, when I looked at them, the were all brittle and coming apart. Found the same thing on the 390 I bought to replace the 352.Comment
