Ok Squarebirds I have been a little over whelm with my new project. Had some time this weekend still have the electric gremlin, but hey the dome light works. So I put on some new parts, fuel pump, spark plugs, plugs wires they snap like twigs.
and Oil it was black, oil filter the rest of my time on the filter.
I search for answers, I tried what I could I bent the first oil wrench its not even thinking about moving, its not up very high
it was on cinder blocks and some 2x4s but didn't feel to safe and bought some jacks a long with a bunch of tools from harbor freight. My lovely bride would not think highly of me if I was a
      Darwin award recipient.
back to oil filter, pushed pulled beat it from top to bottom, My bad shoulder is killing me! Do the screwdriver trick, what's that?
Oil everywhere yep you have to. No I'm trying more stuff..that don't work, go in town talk to mechanics yep did that that to its all squished up. No not the screwdriver again, back home hit from top with 2x4 and hammer i can see 1/4 in. of outside no help, so driver trick how to prepare for big mess, !! WD40 let it sit tell tomorrow.
I don't Know why I'm thinking its going to move.and try as do it don't. one more I go Borrow a
big pipe wrench took a little doing but its off. Yeah oils not all over the place. funny thing after broken from seal hard turning
for a good turn or so. that thing was stuck on, screwdriver just
rip it in half oil all over me and still top left stuck up there.
they say it works, glad I did have to.

Randy, the oil filter bracket comes off with four bolts. That drops the filter in your lap so have a catch-tray underneath.

Drain as much oil as you can, then put the bracket (with the filter) in a vise.

That thick rubber gasket is the culprit. It fused and hardened. Use a propane torch to melt the gasket and the filter will spin off using your hands and a rag.

There is no need to mangle or gack-up parts. For the price of a paper gasket this job should take no more than 1/2 hour and removal should be easy.

I had the same deal with front 'A' arm urethane bushings. Adding a little heat, the old ones came right out, no problem. Alright, that was a lie. After the urethane burned out sending black smoke signals for a radius of two houses, the inner sleeve slid right out. I used a hammer and pipe nipple to pound out the outer shell.

Randy, it sounds like you are having a good time saving that bird. Good for you.

Old cars can be a real learning experience for sure. Never say die. Keep on keeping on.

I've been working on old cars solid for the last 18 years and I always love it when I can learn something new.

          Keep up the good work.

Its started as dirty as it was i'm surprised!?
rusted plugs, oil was black thick something. fuel line had rust, last tags are 2009, put a fuel in gas can put a little in carburetor and some WD40, and WD40 in pistons when changed plugs,
              (i didn't have Mystery oil)
been doing a lot studying here on the Square thank you. there are some wise experienced mechanic, that will go to great links to help you, not to mention there time, just search most of the question have been discussed, Thanks. O that reminds me, I was reading a post about rebuild a 352 detailing the
differences of before 1960 and after 1960, I don't seem to be able to find it again, I wasn't doing a particular search I was just going back two hundred or so pages, well I thought is was something I needed in the future, and wanted to read it again and save it.
Back to starting eng. I hot wire the bird (haven't found key switch problem.) one wire from battery to coil and thicker one from battery side to ignition side of relay, what it cant be that easy! yep when I touch the relay it started it only for 3,4 seconds, I was smiling big, my lovely Bride came out said "what was that you didn't start it with me did you" No I didn't mean to just seeing if my wire work. you see all week while I was taking my time getting rusted in plugs out and reading how and such, Terri would say are you ready to start. No not yet, Ok don't start without me! I didn't think it was going to.
So I poured so more gas in carburetor sprayed wd40 in, touch the the relay it had to turn over a bit longer not much more it started up, it had some knocking going not to bad, about 15 seconds noticed gas coming out of carb. top front side from a hole, quick turn it off, gas, turn the key, No WIRE!! that was fun!! We laugh. so i guess it time to learn about carburetors. but for now I cut a piece rubber bad plug the
hole up. just to see, It ran at idle 7,10 mins. and slowly kept getting quieter the video is right before I turn off, I wanted to check everything, and see about rebuild carb.

That sounds great! Nothing like the sound of something that hasn't run in a long while starting up. Congrats, it's also nice watching someone in a Hawaiian shirt when it's 15 degrees here.

There's a small vent hole in the top of the carb. If gas is coming out either your float is stuck or bad or the needle valve is bad.
