    Fuse Box Help

    Hi,

Just purchased my first Thunderbird this morning, 1966. But, the headlights don't work. Also, the light on the instrument panel, radio, cigarette lighter etc.

Hoping cleaning out the fuse box, and replacing fuses will help with at least some of these issues. But, I can't seem to find a diagram of the box, that tells me what model fuses go where...any advice?

    Thanks,

      Fuse Box Help

Maybe it is to late for you to call, so I will see what I can do to help you with this. The problem you are having could be a headlight switch problem, a ground problem, or some other problem. If you go to the Technical Resource Library (TRL), the link to which is part of my signature element, do a Ctrl F (for Find), type in Wiring Diagrams. Go to them, and go down the years of Wiring Diagrams til you find all the 1966 ones. There you should find the information you need on the fuses, wiring schematics, etc... Now I am going to send you a Private Message with some additional information...

If your headlights don't work check the dimmer switch. Sometimes just hitting it off and on a few times will fix it. It's probably just corrosion in the switch. As for the dash lights it's most likely the headlight switch rheostat. Try turning the knob a few times in each direction. Sometimes that will clean it off enough for the dash lights to work. It's not unusual for the fuse box to become corroded. Pulling the fuses and putting them back in may help.

There is a plug-in connection on the firewall that is notorious for corrosion and melted contacts. This would be coming from the battery and starter solenoid. Pull it apart and look inside. - Dave
