    Tune Up Advice (62 Coupe)

    Hi All,

Has anyone had success with a certain type of spark plugs. I have been trying to determine the best plugs for our 390-V8 and have read copper spark plugs are good for our engines. Has anyone had good results with other type of plugs? Does anyone have a part number for the brand they like?
    Thanks

I don't think there is any advantage at all to using expensive platinum plugs in an engine that you only drive a few hundred miles per year. The high-tech plugs are for change intervals in the 30,000 mile and up range.

I normally stick with what the car came with. So an Autolite 45 or a Motorcraft SP420. They are the replacements for the original Autolite BF-42's.

My 62 coupe came with bf-32. What would be the replacement for those?

Your '62 should have BF-42's or their replacements. Someone put the wrong plugs in. Not that they won't work but I would go with the original heat range.

              Spark Plugs

I read from somewhere that from 55 to 62 the birds required bf-32. From 63 on they required bf-42. I'm trying to find that source to confirm.

I'm looking at the '62 shop manual and it says BF-42. The 32's were used on the later model high performance 390's and 427's. All Thunderbirds from 58-63 with 352's and 390's used either Champion F-11Y or Autolite BF-42.

                  Tune Up Advice (62 Coupe)

Thanks to ya'll, and Dave ~ simplyconnected, we have been able to add some really nice looking A.E.A. Tune Up Charts to the TRL. So far, we have the 1958 352CI, the 1959-1960 352CI & 430CI, and the 1964-1966 390CI charts posted. I am looking for a copy of the 1961-1963 Tune Up Chart, and the 1966 428CI Tune Up Chart. If anyone has a good copy, please email them to me and we can add them to the list.

Please allow me to butt in, Ray... Spark Plug info is on the Tune Up Charts. Here's the link to them:
