Made lowering blocks for the 65's last night

Pretty sure the design with work, but won't really know till we put them on the car, which I hope will be this weekend.

If anyone is interested in seeing them let me know. They will drop the back of the car 2".

I need to clean them up and paint them.

Bad cell phone photo, but here she is lowered in the rear

Car now sits just a bit low in the back, which was our goal, next step will be to lower the front. Have another set on the way to lower the 65 Special.

Can you post a photo of those lowering blocks and tell how they are mounted.

Would they work on a 59 or 60?

Made a slew of lowering-blocks in my time.

        2" X 2" box-section steel 1/4" wall.

        About 4" long

A hole in one side in the centre same size as pin through the leaf-springs

A stud/bolt on the opposite side welded in place (to act as above pin)

2" longer U-bolts, sometimes not needed.

the box-section blocks can be tidied up and made stronger by welding a plate over each end.

Close to what we did, we used 2 x 3 boxed section 5 inches long, welded end caps on it, took some section of 1.5" tube, drilled a 1.5 hole on the top side, a slightly bigger one on the bottom, swedged the tube and welded it in place, then welded a thick washer on the top of the tube to strengthen the tube.

They came out really good we thought.

Used U bolts that were 1.75" longer than the stock ones. The stock ones had thread issues and I had to cut two of them off, the nut would't come off all the way.

I don't know if the would work on a 59 or 60 or not. Does anyone know what the locating pin on the 59 is compared to the 65? All the lowering blocks on the market won't work on the 65 because it has that very large locating pin of 1.5" where I guess GM uses a compartively small 3/4" or so pin.

I can get pictures on them on the car later this week, and I am getting another set made for the Special this week, my friend wanted to make a set with better looking welds. The set on the boys cars we made after 4 or 5 beers, so while the welds are fine, they aren't the best looking.

Rusty, get your friends to look at them after 3 or 4 beers, even up the contest a little!

Photos of the lowering blocks, not painted yet.

Bad quality photos I know, used my cell phone, not sure what I did with the camera.

Fresh from my friends shop, haven't cleaned them up or anything yet.

More photos of the blocks etc.

I would get the u bolts only 1" longer than stock next time

Here is the large locating pin

                  Here is the block installed..

Before and afters on the 65 special

Before the drop in the rear end

                    After the drop

That reminds me, I still need to redo the undercoat on the drivers side.

A tad off topic but I see you have that chrome plastic moulding on the edge of the drivers door - there to protect the edge of the door I believe?

Is it possible to get something like that - but going all the way down? as the bottom part of the door takes knocks too butmy car as in yours the protective moulding does not go all the way down.

I have seen it sold at autozone, but I would bet a good place to find it would be jc witney.

The stuff has on the car when I bout it, haven't dealt with it yet.
