    Power Brake Booster Problem...."I Think"

Ok there is a part that is under the wheel well on the driver side, it is located behind the wheel and under the powerbooser. Have to remove it to see the container attatched (vacume container maybe) and a hose comes from it to the power booster. Removed mine for paint..and it is FILLED with Brake Fluid or Something?? can anyone help me with this "problem" (If it is a problem)I did change the master cylinder in the summer and it does not leak at all, in fact nothing is leaking anywhere. The master is still full to the top since Sept. new one was installed. I know nothing about this and dont know what this is or if it is correct????

    Mark:

You've found the vacuum reservoir for the power brakes. This was
placed inside the wheelwell on '58-'60, with a two-line version used
in '58 and single vacuum line connection in '59-'60. The same
reservoir was used with both the Kelsey-Hayes booster mounted inside
the passenger compartment and with the Bendix-style mounted directly
behind the master cylinder on the engine bay side of the firewall.
Chances are the brake fluid in it was probably sucked in during the
period before the master cylinder was replaced and just stayed there
(a good sign that the in-line check valve is working properly?). You
shouldn't have anything to worry about if you haven't noticed a drop
in brake fluid level in the master cylinder.

For those with '61s, the same or a slightly-modified version of it
was used on early '61s with the Bendix-style brake booster, but was
mounted on the engine bay side behind the headlight bucket. It was
abandoned and deleted when the Midland-Ross style booster came into
use by the end of December 1960.
