    timing and heat

I noticed that when I set the timing initially it was advanced to far, hard starting so I had the mechanic reset the timing. On the way home my temp gauge was up and the temp gauge read between the m and p got home and reset the timing again and this time used a diffrent technique. the temp went back down to between the T and E what I did was advance the timing however not to much also the carb had some heasitation before, now with the advance timing there is no more heasitation the timing fixed everything. Some of the folks with these heat problems my want to experiment with the timing, there is a fine line here I was almost lucky the way I found this out. :7

    RE: timing and heat

Generally, advanced timing causes an engine to run hotter, as well as increasing the chance of detonation.

I unplug the vac/hose and set it @ 8 degr BTDC.
No ping, not hot, performance and throttle responce are there.
What a huge difference that Pertronix and Flame Thrower Coil makes. Runs like a swiss watch. I may never have to install another set of points again . . . Yippee !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
