    C8AP-7006C tranny code

My 62 tbird reverse gear has went out and I debating on getting rebuilt or replacing it. One of my issues is the code that's on this transmission. It doesn't appear to be a cruise o matic but a 68 version of the C6. Does anyone know how to make sense of these numbers and letters?

It should be C8AP-7003-C. According to the Ford parts book it is a C6 with a column shift used in a 1968 Full Size Ford with a 428 engine and a 2.80 rear axle gear. Identification code PGB-F1.

      C8AP-7006C tranny code

C8AP-7006C C=1960's, 8=1968, A=Full Sized Ford, an S would have meant it was from a Tbird. P=Automatic tranny. 7006=basic number for an automatic tranny main case, C=May indicate an engineering change. What I can't tell you is if it is a FMX, a C4 or a C6 or whatever it might be. Other tags on that tranny might tell you the codes for it. It might be a C6. If it has other tags on it tell us what they say.

        E7TP-7006CA transmission code

Will a E7TP-7006CA fit as a replacement tranny for the C8AP-7006C?

          C8AP-7006C tranny code

Bob that E7TP-7006CA is a 1987 T=Truck, P=Automatic or possibly a Bronco tranny. I do not know the answer to that question but maybe Dave ~ simplyconnected, or John ~ jopizz will and can answer it.

Even though it's a C6 that trans is made for a small block not a big block. I'm not sure if the bell housing is the same or what internals are used. If you check transmission sites it doesn't look like they are interchangeable. I would look for a big block C6 or just get yours repaired.

                I got my answer

Thanks for all the help. The tranny is not for my big block. So I guess ill have to fork out the big bucks to get mine rebuilt or I might try to adjust the belts to see if that resolves the issues.
