I agree with John. Your car was engineered and built to standards of the day. All that has changed; gasoline is now gasohol, motor oil has been reformulated several times to comply with catalytic converter use and it is detergent with no ZDDP.
Your Squarebird is of unibody construction with two sub frames that are NOT removable.
If you intend to trailer the car everywhere or keep it in a garage, by all means, bring it back to original glory. It's very cool to find an 'untouched' car that will bring the most money.
However, if you enjoy driving your Squarebird on today's roads it will be in competition with every little car with modern brakes and steering. They have no clue regarding the weight of your car or the distance it takes for shoe brakes to stop.
I prefer cruising with my family. I have power front disk brakes, radial tires, seat belts and rack & pinion steering. My engine has hardened exhaust valve seats and stainless valves for today's fuel and I lowered the compression ratio to 9:1 so I can burn regular gas. Sound like a lot to do? All these changes pertain to ANY classic car on today's roads. I can jump in my car and drive across the country with confidence there will be no issues. - Dave
