Just filled my tank. The gauge keeps moving from full to 1/4. Float or sending unit or both? any educated guesses??????????

RE: Funky gas guage
When the windings of the sender of the gas tank has shorts in it, there can be spots where the space where there is proper resistance and little resitance can be very close, causing erratic readings. Your voltage regulator between the fuel/temp guage and speedometer may be failing or the ground connection loose if the guage continually fluctuates.

RE: Funky gas guage
I would echo everything Alexander said and encourage you to start by cleaning the ground connection for the sending unit. It gets crapped up with residue from gas. Since there is only a small current flowing, it requires good connections. this is all under the mat behind the spare tire well and very easy to get to.

PS It still amazes me that we are all driving around with a tank of gas with an electrical current flowing through it...
