There was a guy on a 460 Ford Facebook page who was taking a squarebird shell and putting it onto a pro-mod tubular drag-racing frame, so where there is a will, there is a way.

It's been a VERY busy year, so I'm sorry I haven't had an open time to chat...
Thanks for finally posting. Ray Clark encouraged me to contact you, otherwise I would not have called. I left a message on your business phone's answering machine with my phone number. Maybe you do business differently in Randolph but here in Detroit, we don't ignore phone messages. You never called back. After a few days, I gave up because I realized that I am not one of your customers and as such I am not a priority although I did have prospects for you.

Yes, I realize you have two small children. I had four; Shannon & Sean are 18-months apart and Cara & Conor are 20-months apart. Having two kids in diapers at the same time (twice), I got up every other time for many years. Regardless, life and business continues. Good luck on your project. - Dave

        Molly Gursky ~ DrivenResto

The following is an update from Molly (and myself) regarding a bit of their history in the restoration & customization of classic cars.

I have provided Husband & Wife team, Molly & Steve with a list of Squarebird parts companies available to them, and those who specialize in marketing used (and NOS) parts on our Forum. Some of the parts houses she knew of, and others not. She has given me permission to put her comments into the thread on the Forum.

I have also put her in contact with "Fuz" ~ tmjsong1aolcom to us, who also has a warehouse full of Tbird parts, he tells me. I did not know that until Dennis ~ Buckaroo, told me. When Dennis needs parts he gets them from "Fuz". "Fuz" and Molly are only about 30 minutes apart from each other and Dennis about an hour away. "Fuz" is interested in the project Molly is working on and in fact, told me that he knows someone that did a customization using a Lincoln unibody, if I have that correct. He will probably put Molly in contact with him. She is in the process of putting together a list of parts they know they will be needing and will be contacting "Fuz".

Once they have the chassis they will be able to post photos and get a better idea of what help they may need. At the moment this is just ONE of EIGHT other restorations they are working on. So they are VERY busy.. They rarely have time to chat on the phone and she is only "in office" one day a week to do books, emails and customer accounts. Most of the time she is in the shop welding, cutting, and working on their projects. So the best way to contact them, it seems, is to send them an email... They are very excited to share progress.

They are a very busy restoration shop and currently booked with paint and body work until next fall! They are all pre-contract based and have 4 full time staff in the shop to try to keep up with their work load. They expanded their shop earlier this year and finished the build out in March 2018 (here is an article in the WI State Journal about their plans and challenges).

        https://madison.com/wsj/news/local/c...+state+journal

They work on all makes and models and are still trying to find more employees to add to the team so they can take on more work in 2019. So if you live in that area and looking for this type of work, email them.... You may be what they are looking for...

It's been a whirlwind of change for them and they are finally getting settled into their Winter routine. Spring brings more mechanical drop in work and then more new contracts for restorations, so they are hoping once they are caught up in the shop by about mid December they will be able to really dig into the T-bird.

She cannot thank us enough for the help and acting as such a wonderful ambassador for T-birds, and helping us spread the word on this build! They are very excited to share progress as they dig into it. Molly says, "Thank you again and I really appreciate your help with communicating with the RIGHT people and especially the local ones, and again, yes please share any of my comments from these emails. I'd hate for anyone to think I'm blowing them off"!

Interesting Ray. I wonder if Molly or Steve could send us some before & after photos of their work.

Chris - there is a link (on post #1) to the restoration where you can see a little history and follow along. I'll re-post the link here.

And hopefully the folks at drivenresto won't mind me linking to a few of their pics as well as the frame shop "Scotts Hot Rods"

Thanks Eric, but I was actually referring to some of the work that they have done in the past.

Chris, there were pix of other projects they have done in the past on the right side of their Blog. Also, check out their actual website, and then click on Portfolio, and you will find all their projects listed and show. There are 17 links there, and if you go from one to the other, clicking on each picture will show you many pictures of they work they have done to get the car to where it is today...

I looked at their website, their quality of work is outstanding. My comment wasn't referring to them, but the owner they're doing the bird for. But kudos to anyone regardless of what they do to a squarebird it's better than it ending up in a scrap heap or rusting away in a field.

Considering the number of the squarebirds built I seldom see another one on the road where I am.
so if an owner wants a coyote motor with an speed tranny although I don't get their logic, I commend them on keeping a classic on the road. BUT I draw the line at putting another mfg motor in it. Someone puts a GM motor in a bird they're dead to me!!

Regarding the rims and tires that might go on that Bird, I doubt they will be putting 20-22"rims and skinny tires on it, considering the mileage the owner intends to put on the car once it is completed. That was just an artist's rendering of what the Tbird MIGHT look like when it is completed.... I think they plan on something more substantial than those...

gregz has just posted in the Anything Goes! forum of Squarebirds, Rocketbirds, and Fifties/Sixties Ford Discussion Forum under the title Resto Mod Thunderbird

If anyone is interested, awhile back a body shop in Wisconsin joined, Driven Restorations, and is building a Thunderbird for another member on here. I have been following this build on their facebook site. They have been doing rust repair on the body and have received the chassis from Scott's Hot Rods that they will be adapting to the car. For the purist they may cringe at the site of the bird being cut up, but I like the fact that some people take interest in updating our birds. Here are the links where you can follow their work on this '59 Tbird. From their website: http://www.drivenrestorations.com/index.php?p=3&al=32. From their Facebook blog: http://blog.drivenrestorations.com/2...ogue-1959.html. Greg, thanks for the post down in Anything Goes. I will delete it for you since I posted it here... Like Greg, those of you who want to keep up with the work can do so by clicking on those links.
