58 Rear Deck Gasket Install ?

Just wondering before we glue this gasket down if we are installing it correct? We are putting the fat side of the weather strip to the inside and the narrow side outward. In this picture we just have it taped down to try to get a little set in it before gluing.
And here's a picture of the right quarter after repair and refinish as it was side swiped.

Thanks John, so if I'm reading this correct when weather strip is installed the open end or side of gasket should be pointed inwards? And the fat closed side should point outwards?

Yes, the open slot should be pointing to the inside of the trunk lid.

I should probably replace mine. It's very old and hardened. It could even be an original piece..... And it is on the lid, and installed the way the instruction sheet (above) shows it.

This makes sense. If the open slot were facing the outside it will catch/retain dirt and moisture, but facing the inside the slot would not be exposed to the elements.
