Edelbrock 1406 installation

I am currently installing a 1406 on my 390 and the lower arm of the throttle linkage hots the i stake manifold a bit. I have the original throttle spacer on but it still happens. Any advice?

Also does anyone have a picture of the linkage setup and how it connects to the car?

This is how it was installed on my '59. I'm not sure why it would be hitting as the spacer should give you plenty of clearance.

Here is a picture of what I am talking about. Jopizz it seems your model is a little different. This 1406 the bottom part of the linkage is a bit more angled. The bottom part of the linkage still hits the manifold when throttle is engaged. If I do not need to use the bottom hole of the linkage for anything do you think it would be alright to grind it off. It would resolve the fitment issue seen here.

Dan, do you have a spacer plate between your carb and manifold?

All 1406's are the same. Your spacer is wrong for a 390 or you have it on wrong. It should be tapered with the larger part towards the front. It should be at least one inch. I have a couple laying around if you need one.

Yes the carb spacer is installed correctly. I believe the spacer is the correct one. Am I correct that I do not need to use the bottom hold on the linkage that is hitting? Grinding it off would eliminate the issue.

If you have to grind the piece off then you obviously don't have the correct spacer. I've put Edelbrock 1406's on many 390's and never had to cut it. I can tell by the picture that it's too short. 390 manifolds were cut flat and used a thicker spacer than a 352. You can do whatever you want. If it was me I'd use the correct spacer. That's the way Ford designed it.

Thanks a lot. It does seem my spacer is tapered but just a little smaller. I went ahead and grinded down the return spring linkage a bit and it fit perfectly. Saved me some money doing so and saved me from buying another spacer. The return spring linkage is not utilized anyway on this carb.
