    Is it okay...

Is it okay to drive a power steering equipped car without the power steering pump hooked up? I mean, sure, it requires more effort, but is anything at risk of being damaged?

At highway speeds probably nothing significant will happen. When turning at low speeds, I think you will cause some twisting forces on the idler arm, causing the bushings to fail sooner. The idler arm of the non-power steering cars had more expensive lubricated metal to metal bushings, while the power steering cars had non-lubricated rubber bushings.

hmmm... don't like the sound of that. I suppose I'll have to attempt to get my p/s system working before I license this thing.

Pat Wilson's lists a pressure hose and a steel cylinder to control valve seal. Is it one of the first and two of the second that I need for hoses? I feel like trusting 50-year old pressure lines is a bad idea...

Also, who sells the rebuild kits for the cylinder and the control valve?

Rebuild kits can be bought at the "Bird Nest" in Portland Oregon. Nice folks, good company!
