Transmission shift lever

Stupid question ..but on a 58 t-Bird how does one remove the shift lever from the steering column to replace it or get it rechromed.

You need to tap out the roll pin with a punch at the projection of the shift collar. You can then pull the shift lever out.

I would not bother rechroming it, since repairing the worn end and rechroming it is more expensive than replacing it with a reproduction.
