    battery discaharge

I have a weird thing going on with my '60 Bird.
Occasionally, not always, I see battery fluid on top of my battery.
It looks like it is being sprayed out from under the caps.

The battery is new and it doesn't seem to have any problems with charging.

The problem seems to happen more often when I take long highway drives.
It will have fluid on top of the battery and on the underside of the hood directly above it.

    Is it charging "too much"?

    RE: battery discaharge

Is this a battery that you filled yourself? You may have overfilled it.

It may be that on the long drive the heat of the engine is making the battery fluid expand. Also if the battery is charging vigourously, bubble form in the battery fluid, which can cause some spray. Overcharging is a possiblity also, check the the voltage regulator.

This battery is a year old and I've never even removed the caps.
It never caused me a problem until a couple of months ago.

And like I said, it doesn't do it all the time.

Can you give me a quick lesson on how to check the voltage regulator?
      I have a multimeter.

      thanks,

The instructions for check this are not short. They are covered in the shop manual in detail. It even tells you how to adjust the voltage regulator.

If you don't have a shop manual, I will try to post instructions.

I have a shop manual. I was just too lazy to look it up I guess.
Well, that and the fact that I don't know where I left the darn thing!

I'll look for the manual and see what it says.

Or for 20 bucks at my local NAPA, maybe I'll just replace the regulator and use the time I save on other TBird pursuits!

          thanks again.
