Ford had Cosworth cams for testing at Romeo Engine plant that were similar. The Cosworth cams used a hollow shaft (for oiling if needed) and splined cam lobes.
These were tried on both, 2-valve and 4-valve heads for the 4.6-liter engine in the early 1990s.
Think about it... All the lobes are separately hardened and ground to just about any dimension while the shaft and bearings remain tough but not hard. - Dave
