Yes, they are interchangeable. Ford did change the port sizes ion the heads in 67 but even after they changed to a smaller port in the head they still had the bigger ports in the intakes! It actually helps with emissions and low end power due to the Bernoulli's principle. Hawkrod

Thanks Kultulz, I did not know they called it an "Interceptor Thunderbird Special". I have never seen that referenced before and I don't spend much time with the shop manual I hadn't stumbled accross that. In 61 it is just "Thunderbird Special" as they dropped the Interceptor name. Justa note for others reading this, that chart shows "Police Interceptor" but note that it is not an engine but a car model. The Police Interceptor engine option did not come out until 62 (I finally looked it up!). A car with a Police Interceptor engine does not have to actually be a police car but the serial number will have a P in the 5th position. From 62-65 the P code was a 330 HP 390. Starting in 66 and going until 70 the P code was a 428 (there were a couple of different version, 66 even had solid lifters!). In 71 the 429 became the P code. HawkrodComment

With Kultulz and Hawkrod on the site, it feels like I have all the expertise in the world around, so please let me just ask if you have any interesting info about these numbers, found on the manifold: C4SE9425A and something that was close to these numbers, but up-side-down: 4A2:
1964 Engine I understand, but is there more to know?Comment

C4SE9425A is as follows:
C= decade of 1960
4= year in decade
S= thunderbird
E= engine department
9425= basic group number
A= design change
4A2 is the date code:
4= 1964
A= January
2= second day
there may also be a casting mark of DIF or CF --symbol F inside a C-- indicating Dearborn or Cleveland FoundryKen

AMAZING! Response within an half an hour!
Thanks Guys.
Where should I look for that Dearborn or Clevelend mark on the Engine?
Buy the way, I spoiled Ruth totally today by ordering stuff for 700 bucks from Larrys. Chistmas comes early this yearComment

Is it possible to see the numbers without taking the engine out? Where on the engine shall I look?Comment

Alright, still having no luch getting my hands on the stuff I need. Everyone I know with a truck can never take the time to help me out, so I'm thinking about just ordering a transmission from TCI so I can go ahead and take care of the transmission end of it. Are their any difference in the C6 transmission over the years that I need to look out for? I just want to make sure that ANY c6 is gonna bolt up and work before I commit any money to it.Comment

The only problem I see with the C6 swap is the shift indicator reading. Most all C6 were SELECT-SHIFT and the MERC-O-MATIC you guys have is DUAL RANGE or GREEN DOT.
The indicator will read D2 when you are actually in DRIVE with the C6.
If you go with TCI, they will offer the best of the best.
PERSONALLY...
I would have the CRUISE-O-MATIC pumped up. Good transmission.
