    '65 Convertible Trunk Problem

Kenneth ~ NightBird lives here in San Antonio and owns a '65 Convertible with a Tonneau cover. He is having a problem with his trunk deck. His Son had put in new trunk upholstery for him. When it went to lower the trunk the right side went down, but the left side did not go down all the way. It has power going down, but will not go down any more. There is no power going up. From what I understand the top is up, but the left side will not lock down. They have the shop manual and are going through that, trying to figure out how to fix this problem.

He contacted me to see if I knew of anyone who specializes in repairing Tbirds in our city. There is no one that I know of here who does, so I suggested he join our Forum in hopes that one of you will be able to tell him what to look for. I told him that he can find the wiring schematics in the TRL. If ya'll can suggest anything to him, please do.

My first thought is that the screw lock cylinder on the left side isn't lined up correctly with the screw lock. Was it removed when the trunk mat was installed? The cylinder is adjustable in and out and up and down. The shop manual has instructions on how to adjust it.

      '65 Convertible Trunk Problem

I was able to put Kenneth in contact with a friend in Austin who specializes in repairing Tbirds and who is very familiar with the convertibles. The Tbird was driven to Austin this morning. My friend found that when the new trunk upholstery was put in place, some wiring apparently was disconnected. It is my understanding that reconnecting the wiring put everything back in working order again.
