    PS Fluid

The shop manual says use Type F trans fluid in the Power Steering. I don't have any, and I'm not sure how hard it is to get but I do have some modern Mercon/Dextron fluid.

Is that OK to use in my PS system or am I going to have problems? I read that I shouldn't use it in the tranny as it may cause shifting issues, but that (obviously) doesn't apply here.

    Thanks.

Actually, I just noticed that the dipstick says 'Type A', not 'Type F'. I also noticed that Type F seems to be available according to Auto Zone's web site. I'm headed to get some Type F, or if I can find it, Type A, but it doesn't look like that's available.

BTW - I went with the Type F for 2 reasons:
          1. I had already put Type F in when I rebuilt the front end last summer and replaced the PS lines adn therefore had to replace the fluid.
          2. Since it called for trans fluid, I thought I'd stick with trans fluid rather than PS fluid.

Type F is what I also use in the trans and PS.
