    1958 352 carberator

    could anyone tell me what carberator should be on my 1958 352 I cannot find any tag or number. thanks again

    A Ford 4100 4-barrel.

        On my 60 tbird manual there is a ford carby or a Carter carter carby for the 352. If you google images of each carb you'll recognise yours. Mines a ford and the choke leaver is on the right side connecting to an automatic choke. From images in the manual the Carter has the choke lever in the centre of the choke butterfly valve. Hope this helps. How much was your kit. I might buy it off you as I was thinking of rebuilding my carb.

          The factory carb for your car is an Autolite 4100..... the Carter is nothing like the 4100, in fact Edelbrock copied and makes the Carter AVS carb to a T these days. Make sure your carb is a 4100 and wasnt replaced at some time with something else... anything could have happened in the last 50 plus years. Look at pics to help identify the carb.

            And Carters were only used on the 1959-60 430cid Lincoln engines.

              carters were also used on the full sized ford 352 in 1958 as well. my '58 has an early '58 solid lifter engine put in sometime before 1968 out of a full sized ford with a carter.As has already been said, the only squarebird to use a carter is the 430 engine.

                Mick how are things in Victoria these days from your neighbour across the Rockies I swapped out my original Holley on my 60 for a Carter 600 cfm and she ppuurrss so good I did the same om my wife's 58. NOTE: Keep the originals and store just in case someone down the road on a sale wants it

                    Hi ya Dano. Victoria is experiencing some heavy fall rain at the moment. Just finished priming fuel tank. I am going to use a Canadian Tire Ruberised undercoat.

                    I was lucky finding this Tbird group to help me get this baby going. You will here alot from me in the next couple of months with some questions about restoring. I am more of a woodworker than an auto man but I like fixing things.

                      Mick we are glad that you did find this site. There are some very knowledgeable people here as members and have great expertise in advice and tips on the how to?? Another benefit is outsourcing parts as several have collected them over the years to swap out or in my case bought " just in case." Great to have you on board and with regards to your questions " ask away ."

                        Hi Cubbear,

                        When I ordered a "complete kit" years ago from a vendor the States, I found out when it arrived here at my home that the Secondary Diaphragm was/is not included!!!
                        Maybe it's changed over the years, but that one had to be bought seperately they told me later........

                            Different manufacturers pack different things in the kits. If you want the best kit for the 352, Tomco includes the secondary diaphragm. Motorcraft, NAPA and Hygrade do not.
                            The Tomco and NAPA kits for the 430 Carter do not include the dashpot piston or the seal for it. An unbranded kit that I sell has the seal that you must install on the old piston rod. I did find an older kit on evil-bay that was complete, but no name on it.

                              I just replaced my carb on my bird. Bought a fresh new rebuilt 4100. I rebuilt the old carb but the rich/lean screws were worn down bad...
