She is in for a new sets of clothes and make up, and will shine like a teenager next year. She are in good health and asked me to thank you all for the congrats. A extra hug from her to Ray as the old Texan girl she is. She keeps telling me that she might have seen him somewhere back in the daysComment

Oh, Not lately. Or to be honest, not since July or so. My plans are not to be ready next summer anyway, so as the summer od 2012 was a disaster here with lot of rain and quite cold, this summer ( and year ) have been fantastic, so I took advantage of that from June to th end of August to go out with my boat and fishing as soon as I could Apart from that, since the beginning of August, I have started exercise 45 minutes every morning before I go to work, + saturday and sunday as well as 3 nights a week because I´m too overweight and need to loose quite some. This is a long term thing, so I guess this is what I have to do for the rest of my life in order to try to avoid heart problems. I´m 57, so it´s about time to say the least. Wrenching with my car have been harder and harder as well and every time I need to dive down under the dashboard, I feel it´s like bending a ball...
So I have been quite tired, but I´m fine and it´s getting easier and easier, but that have only ended in harder exercise.... My son in law is my trainer. He is fit like h*ll, and a doctor as well, so I feel I´m in good hands
So where are I on the car, well, the last thing I did was to remove the front suspension and the steering column, so next up is to clean the garage so I can put the plastic on the floors and walls so I can start sand the engine bay ( the cleaning is done. THAT was a messy job... ), door openings and the trunk before I
put primer on it. After that, it´s filler and sanding time for quite a while I guess So let´s say the paint will be done by next summer, the interior next autumn, and put the car together next winter so I can enjoy the car the spring/summer of 2015. But I also plan to do a trip from New York to LA and San Francisco that summer. We might dive down to Route 66 from Chicago, or go down to South Carolina ( There is a boat company I like and NASCAR places everywhere!!!, and from there go to Route 66. So: A lot of fun ahead. Thank´s for asking Meanwhile: I am practicing Pin Striping and Gold leafing ( incl. burnishing the gold ), so I can finish off Ruth in style
And yes: I have been able to weld the door handles openings ( "shawed the doors" ) Hughe Thank´s for the sheet metal! I used it all! I´m not half the half as good as you, but I managed to get it closed. Don´t think I need too much bondo over it. Have not decided yet if I will lead it or not.Comment

I resemble all of the things you said you felt were wrong with you health wise. (I'll be 57 in Dec) I have started walking. I feel fine I just need to shed those extra cheese burgers I love so much.
I live about a 110 miles up from Springfield Mo. Route 66 goes through there. When the time comes I would like to drive down and buy you a dietary cheeseburger
Glad the sheetmetal worked for you.
I have a pinstriper (21 years old) that has recently started helping me in the evenings 3-4 nights a week. I marvel at what he can do with a brush. That is a art right there. I'm out on that. About the only thing I can draw is flies on a warm day.
Thanks for the update Anders.

Long time, no see... Well, i have worked a bit with my baby, but perhaps not as much as planned. However, i'm back on track and is trying to finish some parts before paint epoxi on them. One thing is the fender skirts. Looking at them, they get squeezed under pressure but goes out when I snap the locking hook, meaning they goes up and down . I can't imagine that they are suppose to have a part of the hook stickning out under the skirt? On the other hand, if I bend them strait, they go back as soon as I put the tension on in order to lock them. Any guidens to sort this out is most appreciated.Last edited by Anders; January 12, 2015, 06:52 PM.Comment

I have the same problem with my fender skirts. I drilled a 1/4" (6.35mm) hole through both the skirt and fender lip. Once correctly installed, I use a stainless steel nut and bolt to ensure the skirt stays on the car.Comment

I am thinking of bending the long handle a bit so the tension is less. But perhaps it will not stay on the car then?Comment

Harry Happy New Year and hope the holidays went well On my 60 I have not had an issue with the skirt removal and replacement but can be cumbersome at best What was Ford thinking ofDano Calgary,Alberta Canada

I don't have a clear idea of what your problem is. Do the skirts fit the fender openings fairly well? I put new patch panels on the rear quarters of my '59 and had to do a fair bit of cosmetic surgery to get the skirts to fit properly. Are the positioning pins on the body in place? The positioning pins should hold the skirts in the correct location. If the positioning pins were missing or had to be replaced, getting them corrected located can be a pain. Are the seals on the skirts in good shape? The locking arm should pull the skirts up just enough to compress the seals for a dust free fit (maybe 1/16" or 2mm). The handle should lock on the inside lip of the skirts as shown in your photo with just enough pressure to keep if from rattling. A longer handle shouldn't be necessary. I have two sets of fender skirts for my '59 - one set painted body colour and one set chromed. Both sets go on and off with reasonable patience (of which I have a deficiency). Let us know how you make out.sigpic "Old Betsy" - my '59 convertible J9YJ116209 Thunderbird Registry #33341Comment

Yes, yes, they fit. My problem is that the lower part of the skirt start to bend when I lock it. See the pic. Where the pivot is, it want to go up, and where the handle ends, it presses the metal downComment

Anders, on my '66 one side (I think the left) has that 'U' shaped bit hanging down, it's just visible, it's the 'hook' that actually fastens things up.
On the skirt on the other side of the car the bottom part of the handle (the 'U' shaped bit) actually hooks up on top of the lip.
I tried hooking the left hand 'U' up onto the lip but no way would it fit so I just left it, nobody has noticed the bit of the 'U' hanging down anyway.A Thunderbirder from the Land of the Long White Cloud.Comment
