    clacking noise

I have a strange clacking noise after the car starts and is running at idle.
It seems to go away when the rpm's are up and also after the car is warmed up.

I recently installed a new starter and it starts great, but the noise seems to be coming from the flywheel area....

    I can't find anything loose.

Any ideas on what this may be?
It only started doing it today.

    thanks,
    Casey

    RE: clacking noise

It could be the the counterweight of the heat riser hitting the frame of the car. Alignments may have shifted when you put in new exhaust manifolds.

      RE: clacking noise

      Alexander,

      YOU DA MAN!!

Actually though, the new exhaust valve isn't hitting the frame but rather it is making a noise because the valve is closed when it is cold.
The new configuration has a "pin" to stop the counterweight from going too far and it seems that the counterweight is tapping on that pin when the spring is cold and tight.

Once the car warms up and the spring loses its tension, then it stops making the noise cause it's no longer tapping the pin.

      thanks Alexander!
