    Managed to scan some documents

    Hello there dear fellowers,

I finally managed to scan some material I have collected, something I always wanted to do in order to contribute to the forum.
The disadvantage of the link provided is that it is accessible only for 30 days, and then it must be renewed I guess. But it was the fastest possibility to get the scans online (If you know a better free webspace, just let me know).
Please feel free to download what you want, but be aware that the pdf-files are rather large, so they print out well.
You need either the images or the pdf´s, there is no need to download both of them (unless you want both). The images are for you to see what´s in the pdf´s and to help to decide if you want to download the pdf.
I also encourage the admins to transfer the scans to the webspace at squarebirds.org, in order to make them accessible for the community here.
The access is password-protected (which is TBIRD) and the website only has a german language interface, but I believe you should be able to get into it. If not, just let me know.

    Regards, Juergen

The link you posted requires a password, I think you linked to your login page. You can post car related stuff at Supermotors.net for free and it will stay there as long as you want it there. Hawkrod

Thanks for all your effort scanning!! I have gotten quite a few downloaded.

I like the brochure for the 1960 motor options that brags that the 1959 352 won the Mobil Economy Run!! Must have had some sad competition...

One of the documents is an exploded body parts diagram for the 1960. It shows the Sunroof and also the convertible.

I have a question for you convertible guys who have worked on the bodies: if you look at the exploded digram for the body components for the convertible, can you spot those internal parts that are different from the hardtop? What I am referring to are the beefed up parts that compensate for the lack of a roof. It has often been said that one does not want to hack off the roof of a hardtop to make a convertible because the resulting body will be too flexible. Alexander used to talk about this and windshield cracking and lousy handling and so on, as a result of a poorly braced chassis. I always wondered what they added to the convertible to compensate. (they are heavier, for example)

@Hawkrod: Yes, there is a password, as it is mentioned in the posting itsself. Just type in TBIRD (passwords are case-sensitive) and on the next window klick the button "GMX MediaCenter starten" in the middle of the page.

Just forgot in the first post to include a quick index of what you will find:
          - 1960 Ford Thunderbird tune-up chart (1960ThunderbirdTuneUp.pdf)
          - Article from a german car magazine (AutoMotorSportHeft11-1959.pdf)
          - Ford Buyers Digest for 1960, only the Thundirbird pages (FordBuyersDigest 1960.pdf)
          - Motors Crash Book Service with exploded diagrams (MotorsCrashBookService.pdf)
          - Road & Track article, one page (Road&TrackFebruary58.pdf)

I´ve been on the supermotors.net website and looked around a bit, don´t find it very suitable and I´m not quite sure if they allow large files (the pdf´s range from 1 to 11 megabytes)

My posting of these documents was meant to provide a quick way for the forum members to download what they want and for the forum admins to transfer them to squarebirds.org as I don´t consider it useful to scatter such (and sometimes rare) technical documents or articles all over the internet.

          Regards, Juergen

Thanks for the response, somehow i missed that bit. Supermotors does allow large files (I have 100 meg stored there!). I also have the same files stored elsewhere as a failure at one site can wipe out the source of all the documents sometimes and so having them posted in more than one location helps everybody. Juergen,

Take a look at tocmp.com/, the info you scan seems to be just what they look for. I haven't posted there before, so you'll have to evaluate the site for yourself. Thanks for the scans.

              John G,

Those diagrams do not show the extra convertible pieces. Bill Van Ess who runs the 58 Convertible Registry (part of the Thunderbird Registry) has researched the cars and knows of the sheet metal pieces that comprise the convertible cars. He added those diagrams with his hand drawn mark-ups to his Registry hard copy that he once sold.

                    hi Ken

On the convertible/hardtop comments, thanks for the clarification!! I was looking at them, comparing them and coming up empty handed. Kinda like the old Wendy's TV commercial "Where's the beef?".

Does anyone have a copy of his drawings??

Are those fog lights on that '58? Those are cool! I want some.

On those Fog Lights -- I agree very cool.

Does anyone have a clue as to whether that was a dealer installed option? Interesting that they would have that on a magazine photo.

The car was imported by the Ford Motor Company in Cologne, Germany, so it is rather obviously the fog lamps where installed there. Maybe we have had more fog in those days here in germany than in the united states ;-)

Because the article is written in german I can help you if you want to know something else (as long as you don´t want a complete translation...)
