Looking for '57 Tbird

As many of you know, I do a lot to help people find the Tbird of their dreams. Such is the case with a couple here in San Antonio who are looking for their first Tbird ever, a red or white with red/white interior '57 Tbird with a 312ci engine and automatic tranny. It is the Tbird they have always wanted and now that their children are out of the nest, they are looking. He and I have been scouring the internet looking for their dream car in Texas, preferably, to keep down the transport cost. Unfortunately, the only one we have been able to find that meets their criteria has a manual tranny. Since his wife wants to drive it also, they want an auto tranny.

We have found a few out of State and to prevent him from having to fly all over the country to check them out, he is looking for a good company that specializes in appraising Tbirds and other classic cars. Hopefully, some of you on here have used such companies before and can give me some leads that I can pass on to him. If you have, please either comment here, or send me an email or PM as quickly as you can. He has found what appears to be a good candidate, and wants to get that car checked out. He has our Vehicle Check List that he can provide the appraiser also.

My experience with appraisers is that they know very little about the specific car they are appraising. They usually have a generic checklist that they use for every model car. Most times they are hired by banks when they are securing a loan. Finding someone who knows what to look for on a particular make and model is difficult. I'm sure most of our members know more about Thunderbirds than most appraisers. Remember when you buy a car any warranty is between the buyer and seller. No appraiser is going to give you your money back if the car is not as represented. You are basically paying for their opinion and nothing more.

Looking for '57 Tbird

Hi John, and thank you very much for those comments. Those are the very reasons why I am trying to find someone in that area who is a Babybird or other Tbird owner to check it out for him. I have been in contact with a well known Tbirder who just happened to be at that dealership for another reason and saw that car. Being a Squarebird guy, he did not give it much more than a cursory overview. However, he has emailed a few of his friends who are Babybird owners and they have been asked if they would check it out. So far, I have not heard from them. I will pass your information on to the couple who is looking.. Thank you!

Looking for '57 Tbird

The couple looking for a '57 found that there was an estate sale being held here today. Included in that sale was a '57 Tbird! It is blue, with a white top and a red interior. Unfortunately, though it looked to be in pretty good condition, it has a manual tranny an no Power Steering. They were asking $31k for it. They passed on it and are still looking. Here are the only two pix that auction house had posted.

Dano, I thought that also. Normally, I think it would have been a blue or blue/white or white interior. Dresden Blue / Starmist Blue (XL) and white. Looking at the Port Hole Authority website, I do not see a dark blue color for a '57 either. So that is probably an aftermarket exterior color.

It turned out that it was a manual tranny Tbird and they were asking $31K for it. Since he is looking for an automatic tranny, he passed on it. I do not know if it sold or not.
