hi Mark
Is your temp gauge working?? The two run off of the same 6V power supply behind the dash.
If your answer is Yes, the temp works, then the problem is probably between the gas gauge and the sending unit (and including it).
On page 2 is a post from someone about their gauge...please read that as a way to see if the gauge itself is ok.
Simple thing to check: did the wire to the sending unit in the middle of the trunk come off? In any event you need to find that wire to test the gauge.
Here's that article:

hi!
I am assuming you mean the lead in the trunk under the mat that connects right on to the sending unit.
If so, get a friend and have them in the drivers seat. With the key OFF, disconnect the lead to the sending unit. Take rags or something and completely cover the top of the sending unit as it could be leaking combustible fumes. Have your friend turn on the ignition key. Briefly ground out the lead you disconnected. The gas gauge on the dash should jump right up towards Full. Stop touching the wire so you don't damage the gauge and shut the key off. This inicates the gauge works.
If you still have problems , post a reply and we can help you narrow down what else could have failed (for example the 6 volt regulator that povides power to the gauges).
Also, while you are in the trunk, clean the ring which holds the sending unit in place as it acts as a ground for the sending unit and can become crapped up with varnishes from the gasoline and not ground well or at all.
Alexander has posted notes elsewhere on this site for calibrating the gauge but you need to get the whole system functional prior to that.

Ok very interesting this am. .First started her and the gauge moved about 1/8..first thought...get gas. filler her up and started and it moved only 1/8..
Anyone have any more ideas on this now???
Mark
Bad float, bad sender or the guage needs to be racalibrated. Take the sender out of the gas tank, ground the sender. Then move the float through it's range to see if the fuel guage registers right. You will then be able figure it out.
