I am wondering how wide one can go, backspacing on the rim, etc. Currently trying to decide if we are going to run 16, 17 or 18 on the car. We are wanting to stuff as much as we can in the back and hide them behind the skirts so all you see is a nice really really deep polished lip. But don't want to run something as radical as a friend is running on his 56 belair. He is running 20x10 on the rear, looks great, but he really has to baby the car to much for me.

There are a few members of this site who are running large diameter aftermarket rims on their cars.

That's me! The rims look great and I wish I could tell you more about how it drives, but there's been one thing after another and I haven't been able to drive it much since I go them.
Seems like things break faster than I can fix them.

RE: Anyone here run 17
Sorry, havn't been by in a couple of days.
Yep, zero offset with 8" width. That recomendation came from Boyd & Discount tire after looking at the car, as I wanted it. I figured that if they recommended it, I could make them deal with it if they didn't fit. But they are perfect, couldn't ask for any better.
BTW - Just pulled all 4 and polished and waxed 'em for the first time last week. Took about 2 hours each. Ouch. Gotta get me one of those Mother's Speed Balls.

RE: Anyone here run 17
Yeah, I have one, bit of advice, get the mini ball, i like it better on my olds. It does a better job of getting in the small spots on my wheels.
But if you don't have the issues of small crevices the normal one would work great. I did all four of my wheels with the mini in about 1.5 hrs....worth every penny.

Yeah, I'm going to get the mini. I saw a demo at the Mothers booth at the Good Guys event here in Columbus. One guy there said he had the big one and said it just flung polish everywhere. I thought about buying one there but didn't make it back to their booth.
