    Expansion tank

i am new to this forum and would like to ak a question about expansion tanks. I have a 62 T-Bird with a 390 engine. I have changed to an aftermaket aluminum radiator. I would like to know if the expansion tank is still necessary? The radiator can be filled without going through the expansion tank. Thanks for your help.

You don't need the expansion tank if you have a radiator fill cap. You should have a plastic overflow tank mounted somewhere though.

Thanks John, That is very helpful. I kind of figured that but I needed an expert opinion.

The fill cap and overflow tube needs to be at the highest point in your system. That's why you had an expansion tank mounted where it was.
