I do not know why I have not thought of this before, after all of these years, but we have a great, free tool these days, to build on our relationships and friendships with each other across this world of ours. Over the years, I have built some wonderful relationships with our Forum members through email. Not only that but also via telephone, especially within the United States. Myself, our webmaster, Dave ~ simplyconnected, Dan Leavens, and John Pizzi ~ jopizz, spend a lot of time communicating back and forth with our membership, helping as we can.
In past years, among my many friend on here, I have developed an excellent friendship with Bill Knighton ~ Penelope, (amongst many more), in Western Australia, to the point that we used to telephone back and forth on occasion. However, to do that on normal landlines can be cost prohibitive. So Bill told me that he uses the free services of Skype! So I set up the free (as long as you are talking Skype to Skype) Skype account on my PC and we started talking back and forth at times, though we are about 12 hours different in time zones! When he is up, I am close to going to bed, and vice-versa! However, several years ago when my PC crashed, one of the programs I forgot to recover was my Skype access, so we could no longer do that. Then, apparently, I found out recently that I haven't seen my microphone for a long time! BTW, Bill just said that on their next trip to the USA this year, he and Debbie will be going through San Antonio to see me! I am thrilled to know that and am looking forward to it
When I started helping him look for those Thunderbird Gasoline Company signs, it dawned on me that we could be talking back and forth again, if I had my Skype account back up. So today, I brought up Skype and downloaded the latest version, got out my user id and old password, and logged in! Skype remembered it! So now I have Skype back up and running but can't talk to anyone yet, because I have not found my mike. My next goal is to go buy one and hook it up to the PC. BTW, IF you also have a video camera on your PC and the members you would like to talk with do to, you can video PC to PC, back and forth. Just as you see many do on the news these days, when they video Skype into a newscast... Unfortunately, there is no camera on this PC.
Keep in mind that there are already some great friendships that have been developed over the years on here. Leonard and Debbie ~ Yellowbird, N. Texas and Tom & Christine, ~ scumdog in New Zealand are great examples of actually having travelled back and forth to each others homes to meet several times! This is a great way to take it to another level! Consider this also. Unfortunately, you cannot use Skype on a cell phone for free, or a landline. But you CAN if you set up a Mobil app of Skype WiFi, Skype Credit Account or subscription to do that. There is a link below that will explain how Skype works. BTW, I have just read that Microsoft had bought Skype on May 10, 2011, and made it part of their offerings in later Windows Versions. I see I do have Skype as part of my Win 10 OS on my laptop. I see that as of August 17, 2011, Microsoft has made Skype available on the iPhone, iPad, and iPod, with a Mobil ap, Skype WiFi, and Skype Credit. Notice that all three links listed below are https:// Secure links... Here is the link to that!

Now how do you get the FREE Skype? Simple! Just download it, install it, find your mike, or buy a cheap on, plug it into your PC, run the Skype audio or video tests to make sure your Mike and Camera (if you have one) connection on the PC is working and if so, away you go! Here is that link!

If you decide to do this and start building international friendships with fellow Tbird owners around the world, please let us know how it is working for you. BTW, as long as you and the person on the other end has a PC device and a Skype account, you can talk with about anyone around the world for FREE these days....
