When I purchased my '58, the previous owner included a pair of front springs from a wrecked '59 in the trunk. While rebuilding the front end, I decided to use these "newer" springs but have been unable to install them, even with a spring compressor. I set all 4 springs on the floor on the flat end (opposite of car insallation) and visually noticed that the spacing between the coils was slightly less on the '59 set. I then aligned all four so that the coil started at the same location and found that the '58 had 9 and 1/4 coils while the '59 had 9 and 3/4. All 4 springs were exactly the same height. Anyone run into a similar situation? Are the '59 springs out of a car with the 430 Lincoln engine? I plan to install the original springs this weekend.
