    10 Less Squarebirds

I've been in contact with a man who lost 10 Squarebirds (6 Ht's and 4 Converts, all project cars) in the fire of a rented storage space. The fire was so devastating that it turned aluminum and diecast to mere puddles of the material. Panel warpage was abundant and fallen timbers also contributed to the destruction of the cars. Nine of the cars went to the scrap yard and I was able to rescue the least damaged, a 430 Convertible. What I have is a body with no paint, rubber, glass, wire insulation, upholstery or trim. The undercoating is still apparent underneath and the motor and trans and suspension suffered no heat damage at all.
I'm not sure if I will harvest the usable parts, or preserve the body for a future restoration project.
Does anyone here have experience with the restoration of fire damaged sheet metal?

Hi Carl, What a terrible loss! I am glad that you were able to rescue one of them and that someone will have information on how to restore fire damaged sheet metal. Were you able to get the VIN #'s/Data Plate information on each of the lost Tbirds? If so, we can put that information in the Tbird Registry for you, if you have it or can get it

      Ray,
Because of the heat, the data plates and rivets just melted, leaving no sign that they were ever there. I might be able to come up with a stamped vin on one of the other cars and also mine.

Wow!! I understand. If the owner has records of the VIN # and Data Plate information, OR if he had them registered in the Tbird Registry and knows the Registry numbers, we could update their status for him. If he has that information and does not mind telling us. I think it would be good to record in the Registry what happened to each of those Tbirds to further document their status. What a shame this happened.

ooooh! Makes one cringe to know that. Good job that you found one with something left.
